The trail features towering trees and mossy paths, offering a gradual climb to help with acclimatization. After a 5–6 hour trek, you’ll reach Machame Camp at 3,000m. This forest-zone site provides a peaceful setting for your first night on the mountain. Lunch and dinner are included as you settle in for your overnight stay.
Machame Camp
Machame Camp – Shira Camp
As you exit the forest, the path ascends steadily through open heathland, where the greenery thins to reveal breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau. This 4-5 hour trek leads to Shira Camp, perched on a scenic ridge at 3,840 m. Here, you’ll enjoy sweeping mountain panoramas along with provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner before settling in for an overnight stay at the camp. It is a perfect transition from the dense woods to the expansive, high-altitude beauty of the mountain.
Shira Camp
Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco
Today’s trek focuses on the "climb high, sleep low" strategy to boost acclimatization. You’ll ascend to the 4,630m Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp, situated 3,960m high beneath the stunning Barranco Wall. This 6–7 hour journey is vital for altitude adaptation. Your day includes all meals and an overnight stay at the camp, ensuring you're fueled and rested for the climb ahead.
Barranco Camp
Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
The day kicks off with an engaging scramble up the Barranco Wall, a non-technical climb rewarded by breathtaking vistas. From the summit, you’ll navigate a scenic series of ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp (4,035 m). This 4–5 hour trek is designed to bolster your acclimatization while providing ample time to rest. Your stay includes all meals and an overnight at the camp, ensuring you're fueled and ready for the next stage of the journey.

Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Post-breakfast, you'll trek 3–4 hours through rocky, exposed terrain to Barafu Camp (4,673 m). As the air thins, take in the dramatic alpine vistas before arriving by early afternoon. This final base is dedicated to recovery: focus on hydrating, resting, and eating an early dinner to fuel your upcoming midnight summit push. All meals are provided as you prepare for the ultimate challenge.
Barafu Camp
Summit (Uhuru Peak) – Mweka Camp
Midnight marks the start of your final ascent, a rhythmic climb under a starlit sky toward Stella Point. From there, you’ll traverse the crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895m. After celebrating your achievement, begin the long descent past Barafu to Mweka Camp for the night. This grueling yet rewarding 10–15 hour trek includes all meals and concludes with well-earned rest at your final campsite.
Mweka Camp
Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate
The journey concludes with a 3–4 hour final descent through vibrant rainforest to Mweka Gate. Upon arrival, hikers receive their official summit certificates to commemorate the achievement.
