The Machame Route, also known as the “Whiskey Route,” is one of the most scenic and popular trails on Mount Kilimanjaro. This 7-day itinerary offers excellent acclimatization, diverse landscapes, and a strong success rate for reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters.

Your adventure begins in lush rainforest, where the trail is full of fresh air, tall trees, and sounds of nature. As you move higher, the landscape opens into the heather and moorland zone, offering wide views of the mountain’s dramatic ridges. The route includes the famous “climb high, sleep low” approach at Lava Tower, which greatly helps your body adjust to the altitude for a safer and more comfortable trek.

Beyond this point, you continue to the alpine desert and eventually approach Barafu Camp, the high base camp for your summit push. On summit day, you begin the climb at night, slowly ascending to Stella Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak. After the summit, you descend via the Mweka Route through scenic forest until you exit the park.
