5-Day Safari Summary: Lake Manyara, Serengeti & Ngorongoro

This 5-day safari highlights three of Tanzania’s most famous wildlife regions. The journey begins in Lake Manyara National Park, known for its lush forests, diverse birdlife, large elephant populations, and the rare tree-climbing lions that often rest on acacia branches. After an afternoon exploring the lakeshore and woodlands, guests overnight near Manyara or in Karatu.

The trip continues with two full days in the Serengeti National Park, a vast savannah ecosystem home to abundant predators and impressive herds of grazers. Depending on the season, travelers may witness the Great Migration, where thousands of wildebeest and zebras move across the plains in search of fresh grazing. Morning and afternoon game drives provide excellent opportunities to spot lions, cheetahs, leopards, giraffes, elephants, and a wide range of antelope. Nights are spent in a Serengeti lodge or tented camp.

On Day 4, a final morning game drive in the Serengeti precedes the journey toward Ngorongoro, passing through varied landscapes and traditional Maasai territories before overnighting on the crater rim.

The final day features a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with one of the continent’s densest wildlife populations. Visitors often see lions, buffalo, hippos, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, and if lucky the endangered black rhino. After a picnic lunch inside the crater, the safari concludes with a return drive to Arusha.
