Safari summary
This 5-day private Mount Meru hiking safari from Arusha is designed for travelers seeking a rewarding trekking experience combined with Tanzania’s breathtaking landscapes and rich wildlife. Mount Meru, standing at 4,562 meters, is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and lies within Arusha National Park. Its diverse ecosystems ranging from dense rainforest to bamboo zones, alpine moorlands, and volcanic slopes offer a unique hiking adventure. The trek also provides opportunities to spot wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, monkeys, and a variety of birds, all in a serene natural setting.
Starting from Arusha, you will be transferred to the Miriakamba trailhead, where your private guide will provide a safety briefing, route overview, and tips for a successful hike. The first day of trekking involves walking through rainforest and bamboo forest to reach Saddle Hut, allowing your body to begin acclimatizing to higher altitudes.
The second day involves continuing the ascent through increasingly rugged terrain, giving you views of volcanic ridges and distant peaks, before reaching Third Cave Hut or an intermediate camping site. This extra day of gradual ascent helps with acclimatization and ensures a stronger summit attempt.
On the third day, you will start the early morning summit push to Mount Meru’s peak. Hiking begins before dawn to witness the sunrise from the summit, offering panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Great Rift Valley, and surrounding plains. After enjoying the summit, you will descend carefully to Saddle Hut, reflecting on the achievement and taking in the mountain’s beauty.
The fourth day allows for a more relaxed descent back to Miriakamba Hut, enjoying the changing landscapes, spotting wildlife, and appreciating the serene environment. This day ensures a comfortable return from higher altitudes while giving time to rest and enjoy the scenery.
On the fifth and final day, you will complete the descent from Miriakamba Hut to the trailhead, where your private vehicle will transfer you back to Arusha. This 5-day trek is carefully paced to balance adventure, safety, and enjoyment, making it suitable for private groups, couples, or solo travelers seeking personalized attention. With the guidance of a professional, the trek offers an unforgettable combination of physical challenge, scenic beauty, and wildlife encounters, all at your own pace.
