Safari summary
This 6-day private safari offers an extraordinary journey into two of Tanzania’s most pristine and less-visited wilderness areas: Nyerere National Park and Ruaha National Park. Located in southern Tanzania, these parks are part of an increasingly popular safari circuit renowned for its raw beauty, abundant wildlife, and seclusion from the crowds that frequent northern parks. Your adventure begins in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s vibrant coastal city, where you’ll board a short flight to Nyerere National Park. Formerly part of the expansive Selous Game Reserve, Nyerere is famous for its lush riverine landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and outstanding opportunities for both land and water safaris. Here, the Rufiji River weaves through the park, providing an ideal habitat for hippos, crocodiles, and a myriad of bird species. The park also supports healthy populations of elephants, giraffes, lions, and the elusive African wild dog, one of the continent’s rarest predators. Nyerere’s combination of walking safaris, boat excursions, and traditional game drives offers a multi-dimensional wildlife experience that is both thrilling and immersive.
Following your time in Nyerere, the safari continues with a flight to Ruaha National Park, Tanzania’s second-largest and most remote protected area. Ruaha represents the wild heart of southern Tanzania, encompassing vast plains dotted with iconic baobab trees, rugged hills, and the twisting Great Ruaha River. This park is a sanctuary for large herds of elephants and buffalo, as well as prides of lions and elusive leopards. Ruaha’s diverse habitats also support impressive numbers of antelope species such as sable, roan, and greater kudu, making it a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers alike. The park’s relative remoteness means fewer vehicles and a more intimate connection with the African wilderness. During your stay, you will enjoy expertly guided game drives that tailor to your interests, whether that’s tracking big cats, birdwatching, or spotting rare mammals. The sense of solitude and untouched nature here is unparalleled, providing a genuine escape from the modern world.
Throughout this private safari, you will travel in a comfortable 4x4 safari vehicle accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who shares insights about the wildlife, ecology, and local culture. Your accommodations will be a mix of exclusive lodges and well-appointed tented camps, offering a perfect blend of comfort and authentic wilderness experiences. From dining under the stars to waking up to the sounds of the African bush, each day is designed to maximize your connection with the landscape and wildlife. Whether cruising along the Rufiji River in a traditional boat or scanning the golden plains of Ruaha for predators, this safari provides an intimate, luxurious, and unforgettable exploration of Tanzania’s southern wilderness. Perfect for adventurous travelers seeking a private, uncrowded, and deeply immersive safari experience, this journey reveals the incredible biodiversity and unspoiled beauty of one of Africa’s last great wildlife frontiers.
