Itinerary

Bird Mabamba swamp

After breakfast, we shall drive to Mabamba wetlands where we will be paddled in a canoe through the swamp looking for the mighty Shoebill; other birds like White-winged Wabler,Carruthers’ Cisticola, Papyrus Gonolek, Saddle-billed Stork, African pygmy Goose,Lesser Jacana,Common Squacco, Purple and Goliath Herons, Yellow billed Egre, White-faced Whistling Duck, Yellow-billed Duck,Hottentont Teal, African fish Eagle, Black Crake. Later transfer to L.Mburo N.Park and lunch will be on the way.

After early break fast, we will take an early morning boat ride in search of African Finfoot and other water birds. Our highlight will be Brown-chested Plover, Southern Ground Hornbill, Spoty-Flanked, White-Winged Warbler, Papyrus Yellow Warbler, Carruthers’ Cisticola, Papyrus Gonolek, Yellow-billed Oxpecker and Nothern Brown –throated weaver.We shall drive later in the day and stop at Agip motel in Mbarara town for lunch break. After lunch drive to Mgahinga National Park.

After break fast with your packed lunch, drive to Ntebeko camp from where we will start our trek to probably the most scenic protected area in Uganda. We will take the gorge trail that loops half way up to Mt Sabinyo through a variety of montane habitats. Handsome Francolin, Dusky Turtle Dove, Rwenzori Turaco,Montane( Rwenzori)Nightjar,Alpine Chat,Kivu Ground Thrush, White-tailed Blue Flycatcher,Lagden’s Bush shrike, Scarlet-tufted Malachite Sunbird, Montane double-collared Sunbird.

To Ruhija birding via Echuya

After early morning breakfast, bird as we proceed to Ruhija through Echuya forest. Look for birds such as Archer’s Robin-Chat, Kivu Ground Thrush, Dusky Blue Flycatcher, Mountain Masked Apalis, Stripe-breasted Tit, Rwenzori Batis, White-napped Raven, Black-crowned Waxbill and many others. Later continue reaching Ruhija in the evening.

After early breakfast, we will walk down with packed lunch to Mubwindi swamp looking for specials like Archer’s Robin-Chat,Evergreen Forest Warbler,Rufous-breasted Sparrowhawk, Dwarf Honey-guide,Grey Chested Illadopsis, Cabanis’s Greenbul, Oriole Finch,the incredible Purple-breasted Sunbird,Slender-billed, Wallers, Narrow-tailed and Stuhlmann’s Satarlings,Dusky, Red-faced, Abyssynian and Shelleys and many other specials.

Transfer to Bwindi

Depart for Buhoma via the neck birding en-route for species like Tambourine Dove, Black bee-Eater, Mountain Wagtail, Toro Olive-Greenbul, White-starred-Robin, Strange Weaver, Dusky Twin Spot, Black bee-eter among others. We shall do a short village walk around Buhoma area after arrival for Magpie Mannikin in the evening.

After Breakfast, bird along the main trail for species like Red-throated Alethe, Archer’s Robin chat, Kivu Ground Thrush, Montane Masked Apalis,Collared Apalis, Gruaer’s Warbler, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher,Western Bronze-naped Pegion,Fraser’s Eagle owl, Bar-tailed Trogon,Willcock’s honeyguide,Fine-banded and Elliot’s Wood peckers, White bellied Robin-Chat, Forest Ground Thrush, Black-faced Rofous Warbler, Chapin’s Flycatcher, White-collared Olive-back, Red-fronted Antpecker and Oriole-Finch.

Transfer to QUENP

Early morning transfer to Queen Elizabeth N.Park via Ishasha and we shall have our lunch on the way. At Ishaha, We shall see a variety of Game including climbing lions, Elephants, Buffaloes and other game. Having reached in the evening , we shall bird around the hotel on arrival in the evening for species like Blue quail, African Crake, Ross’s Turaco, Jackson’s Pipit, Red-headed lovebird, Cassin’s Flycatcher, Black bee-eater, African Black-backed Vulture, Shining Blue King fisher .

After breakfast,a morning game drive and birding will be ideal. Lunch at the lodge and go for the boat trip in the afternoon on Kazinga channel where we shall see a variety of wild life and bird life as well. A variety of game such as hundreds of hippos, crocodiles will be viewed. Other animals like Elephants, Buffaloes, Uganda Kob, Bushbuck, Defassa waterbuck will also be viewed. Many bird species are also available here like; saddle-billed stork, common quail and Rufous naped lark.

Transfer to Semliki N.Park

After breakfast we will transfer to Semliki birding en-route. Having reached in the afternoon, you will check in at the lodge and head for evening birding. Look for species like Spot-Breasted Ibis, Hartlaub’s duck,Forest Francolin,Nkurengu Rail, Black-collared Lovebird,Bates’ Night jar,White-crested black Dwarf,Red-Billed Dwarf, Piping and Black-wattled Hornbills,African Piculet,Swamp,Lemon-bellied Crombec, Ituri Batis,Fiery-breasted Bush-shrike,Black-winged Oriole,Blue-billed e.t.c

Whole day Birding Kirumia Trail.

After breakfast, we will head to kirumia trail for variety of endemic species as mentioned above especially the ones you will have missed and later return to the lodge in good time for lunch. Have lunch and relax shortly and later head for an evening birding. Dinner and overnight as above.

Drive to Kibale N. park.

A whole day drive to Kibale and in case we get there a bit early, we do some evening birding.

Birding in Kibale N.P is a delightful experience. We shall look for species such as Red-winged Francolin, Red-chested Flufftail, White-naped Pegion, Green-breasted Pitta, African pitta, Joyful Greenbul, Abyssinian Ground Thrush, Grey-throated Flycatcher, White-bellied Crested Flycatcher, Masked and black-capped Apalises, Orange-tufted and tiny sunbirds, Grey-headed Olive-back and many more. Lunch at the hotel. Go birding bigode swamp in the evening. Dinner and overnight as above.

Our key species in Murchison will be Shoebill, Secretary bird, Bat Hawk,Red-necked Falcon, Heuglin’s Francolin,Senegal Thick-Knee,Egyptian-plover, Rock Pranticole, Black-headed Plover,African Skimmer, Four-banded Sandgrouse,Bruce’s Green Pegion and later transfer to Masindi e.t.c

After break fast, proceed to bird at Royale mile for the new birds, coming back in time for lunch. After lunch drive back for afternoon birding. Look out for species like Cassins’s Hawk Eagle, Nahan’s Francolin, Black-collared Lovebird, Cassin’s and Sabine’s Spine tails, Chocolate-backed, blue breasted and African Dwarf Kingfishers, Piping Hornbill, Red-sided Broadbill, Green-breasted pitta, Puvel’s Illadopsis, Spotted Greenbul, Fire-crested Alethe.

: Transfer to Mabira Forest

After early morning breakfast, we will go for birding in search of the missed species then later transfer to Mabira Forest birding en-route. Lunch on the way.

Bird Mabira

After breakfast, bird at Mabira forest and later visit the water falls. A variety of bird life that we shall see. We shall walk along the trail and look out for birds such as; Dusky Tit, Forest Robin,Little Olive and other superb sun-birds. The trail continues into an open area where large, dead trees provide nesting sites for an abundance of barbets such as Great Blue Turaco and Local African Pied Hornbill are also found there. Evening transfer to the airport for your return flight.
