Itinerary
Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa
Kilimanjaro
Your adventure begins with a drive to the Lemosho Gate on the western side of Kilimanjaro. After registration, you’ll start your trek through dense rainforest, likely spotting black and white colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife. The hike to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp) is relatively short and gentle. Overnight at Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1
Kilimanjaro
Today’s trek starts with a steep ascent through forest before entering the heather and moorland zone. You’ll climb the Shira Ridge and descend onto the Shira Plateau, where the terrain opens up with sweeping views of the mountain. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp.
Shira 1 to Barranco Camp
Kilimanjaro
This is an important acclimatization day. You’ll ascend steadily to Lava Tower, reaching an altitude of 4,600 meters before descending to sleep lower at Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy is key to improving your adaptation to altitude. Overnight at Barranco Camp, nestled below the impressive Barranco Wall.
Barranco to Karanga
Kilimanjaro
The day starts with a fun and challenging scramble up the Barranco Wall, which offers magnificent views over the Karanga Valley. After the climb, the trail winds through ridges and valleys before a short ascent to Karanga Camp. Overnight at Karanga Camp.
Karanga to Barafu
Kilimanjaro
Today’s hike is shorter but at high altitude. You’ll ascend through a barren alpine desert landscape to reach Barafu Camp your base for the summit attempt. You’ll eat an early dinner and rest before beginning your midnight climb to the Roof of Africa. Overnight at Barafu Camp.
Summit to Mweka Camp
Kilimanjaro
At around midnight, you’ll begin your summit push. It’s a slow, steady ascent to Stella Point (5,739m), followed by a final push to Uhuru Peak the highest point in Africa. After photos and a short celebration, descend carefully to Barafu Camp for rest, then continue your descent to Mweka Camp. Overnight at Mweka Camp.
Mweka Camp to Gate
Kilimanjaro
Your final day on the mountain is a gentle descent through the lush rainforest. Upon arrival at Mweka Gate, you’ll receive your summit certificates. Your vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Continue with airport transfer.
