This 2 day wildlife safari to Akagera National Park offers you an opportunity to look out for the African Big 5 animals. Akagera National Park located in the North Eastern Rwanda bordering with Tanzania, is well known for its spectacular views and is one of the most scenic national parks in Africa. The park is the only savanna park in Rwanda and offers opportunity to look out for wildlife that include Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino. Other animals in the park include zebras, topi, eland, roan antelope, sitatunga, warthogs, giraffes, impala, klipspringer, oribi, bohor reed buck, defassa waterbuck and bush buck. This safari inlcudes game drives in the park and a boat ride on Lake Ihema.

Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up & Travel to Akagera

Akagera

You will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali and then start the journey to Akagera NP. On arrival we go on an introductory game drive in the park where we drive through the vast savanna plains as we look out for wildlife. Stop overs will be made to watch the animals and take photos. After the game drive, you will go on an afternoon boat ride on Lake Ihema. The boat ride offers an opportunity to look out for hippos, crocodiles, elephants and water birds. Retire to the lodge for overnight.

Day 2: Game Drive & back to Kigali

Akagera

After an early breakfast you go on a morning game drive. This game drive takes 6-7 hours as you explore the park, looking out for wildlife. Wildlife to look out for include elephants, lions, buffaloes, zebras, topi, eland, roan antelope, sitatunga, warthogs, giraffes, impala, klipspringer, oribi, bohor reed buck, defassa waterbuck, olive baboons and vervet monkeys among others. In the midst of the game drive your driver guide will take you to the hippo pool for chances of more sightings.
