Safari summary
4-day safari with Origin Ventures and Safaris:
1. Arusha National Park
Located just outside Arusha, this park is one of the most underrated gems in Tanzania. It offers diverse landscapes, from lush rainforests to serene lakes, and provides stunning views of Mount Meru. Arusha National Park is known for its rich birdlife, including flamingos at Momella Lakes, and a variety of wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and colobus monkeys. The park is unique because it allows visitors to take walking safaris, offering a closer connection to nature and wildlife. Arusha National Park is a perfect introduction to Tanzania’s wildlife and an ideal spot for photography.
2. Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara is known for its dramatic landscapes, where the Great Rift Valley meets the lake’s alkaline waters. The park’s tree-climbing lions are one of its most famous attractions, along with its vast populations of flamingos that gather around the lake. The park also offers amazing birdwatching opportunities, with over 400 species of birds recorded. Other wildlife you may spot include elephants, giraffes, hippos, and wildebeests. The escarpment view of the park provides breathtaking views, making it a great place for both game drives and nature walks.
3. Tarangire National Park
Tarangire is often referred to as the “Land of Giants” because of its massive population of elephants. The park features vast savannas dotted with iconic baobab trees, and during the dry season, the Tarangire River becomes a focal point for wildlife, attracting large herds of animals. In addition to elephants, Tarangire is home to other wildlife such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and buffaloes. The park also boasts a large number of bird species, including yellow-collared lovebirds. Tarangire provides a true wilderness experience with fewer crowds compared to other parks.
4. Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most unique ecosystems on Earth. It is a massive collapsed volcano that forms a natural caldera, creating a self-contained world full of wildlife. The crater is home to the Big Five—lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffaloes—as well as zebras, wildebeests, cheetahs, and hyenas. The crater floor is rich in grasslands, forests, and a soda lake, making it one of the most fertile and biodiverse places in the world. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ngorongoro is often referred to as the “Garden of Eden”, and it offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa.
Each of these parks offers something unique, whether it’s the scenic beauty of Arusha, the birdwatching opportunities in Lake Manyara, the giant elephants of Tarangire, or the wildlife-packed Ngorongoro Crater. Together, they create a rich, diverse experience that captures the essence of Tanzania’s wildlife and landscapes.
