Safari summary

Summary
The Zambezi Voyager provides the ultimate luxury cruising holiday on the Chobe River. Small, intimate and owner-managed, this house boat provide us with the opportunity to stay overnight within the actual wildlife area of the Chobe National Park at prime mooring sites along the river, giving us a more intimate wilderness experience.

The Chobe National Park is fast becoming one of the most sought after destinations for both amateur and professional photographers wanting access to some of the best wildlife and birding available.

There is something incredibly special about cruising on the Chobe River, along the banks of the Chobe National Park, watching the outstanding wildlife and birdlife from water level and on a dedicated, specialised photographic Boat. The Photographic opportunities on on board this boat and along the river are second to none. This specialised photographic boat has been custom designed to provide stability at all times, it is fitted with gimbal heads that are compatible with almost all lenses. The specially designed rotating chairs provide full pan and tilt and uninterrupted 360 degree views allowing you full access to the scenery and wildlife around you.

The Chobe is home to highest concentration of elephants in the world, seeing these great animals at water level, looking up at them from our photographic boat as they come down to the water to drink, bathe and play, is a sight that you will never forget. The area has a great diversity of other wildlife including numerous antelope species, such as Puku, Lechwe, Waterbuck, Roan antelope and Sable just to name a few, predators that are often spotted along the banks are Lion, leopard and on the odd occasion Wild dogs. The river itself is also alive with Hippos, Crocodiles, Terrapins and a diversity of fish species.

The extraordinarily rich and diverse birdlife that frequents the banks, due to the diverse array of habitats, certainly qualifies the Chobe as a birders paradise, and over 450 bird species can be seen from the boats alone. This list includes some birds that are of exceptional interest: One of the densest populations of Fish Eagles occurs in the area and as a result there is no better place to photograph the majestic birds. Other specials that we may photograph include Slaty egret, Western Banded Snake Eagle, Rock Pratincole, African Skimmer, Schalow’s Turaco, Coppery tailed Coucal, Pel’s Fishing Owl, Greater Swamp Warbler, Chirping Cisticola, Luapula Cisticola, Shelley’s Sunbird, Northern Grey-headed Sparrow, Brown Firefinch, various Kingfishers, Bee Eaters and the Broad-tailed Paradise Whydah.

The opportunities and possibilities on this safari are endless.......Dont miss out.

Itinerary

Day 1

Chobe

Day 1 After arriving at the Kasane Airport a short drive will take us to the banks of the river and the Botswana immigration, here our guides will meet us. From here after clearing immigration we will head along the river by boat to Impalila Island where we will once again go through immigration, this time entering to Namibia. After all this we will arrive on the House Boat for a quick light lunch, and shortly after we will make our way out onto the river in our dedicated photographic boat for an afternoon of wildlife photography on the Chobe River

Day 2

Days 2 - 4 During these three days we will have complete freedom to move around the river as we please. All meals will be enjoyed on the houseboat, which will slowly make its way from one docking point to another should we wish to do so, we normally recommend no more than 2 nights per location this allows us maximum opportunity and use of the river. You will also have the option to sit and work on processing techniques with your host between activities. All days will be planned in order to maximise our photographic time out on the river.

Day 5

Day 5 After an early morning photo excursion on the photographic boat we will enjoy breakfast on the houseboat before being transfered back to Botswana Immigration and dropped off for the short drive back to the Kasane airport and our flights back home.
