Moshi -Machame Gate- Machame Camp

Your journey begins with a drive from Moshi to Machame Gate (1,800m). After registration, start trekking through lush montane rainforest to Machame Camp (2,835m). The trail is approximately 11 km, taking 5-7 hours. You’ll ascend steadily, encountering giant ferns, moss-draped trees, and diverse wildlife. The day ends at Machame Camp, where you can rest amidst scenic views and prepare for the higher altitudes to come.

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Departing Machame Camp, the trail climbs steeply through moorland. You’ll cover 5 km in 4-6 hours, gaining elevation to reach Shira Camp at 3,750m. The terrain transitions to rocky landscapes, with stunning views of Kibo Peak and the Shira Plateau. Breaks along the way allow for acclimatization. Shira Camp offers a spectacular sunset and a chance to adjust to thinner air at this elevation.
