Day 1: Arrival at Moshi or Arusha
Kilimanjaro
Elevation: 1,950 m (6,398 ft) to 2,650 m (8,694 ft) Distance: 8 km (5 miles) Duration: 3–4 hours Description: After arriving in Moshi or Arusha, you'll be driven to the Rongai Gate, which is the starting point for your climb. The first day’s hike is relatively easy, passing through farmland and forest, and ending at Simba Camp.
Day 2: Simba Camp to Second Cave

Elevation: 2,650 m (8,694 ft) to 3,450 m (11,319 ft) Distance: 8 km (5 miles) Duration: 4–5 hours Description: Today, you continue your ascent through the moorland zone. The landscape starts to change, offering beautiful views of the mountain’s glaciers. The hike is relatively gentle, with an overnight stop at the Second Cave.
Day 3: Second Cave to Kikelewa Camp

Elevation: 3,450 m (11,319 ft) to 3,600 m (11,811 ft) Distance: 8 km (5 miles) Duration: 4–5 hours Description: The trail continues through the moorlands, with more beautiful scenery and a chance to spot wildlife. The hike is gradual, and you’ll spend the night at Kikelewa Camp, which is near the base of the alpine desert zone.
Day 4: Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi

Elevation: 3,600 m (11,811 ft) to 4,330 m (14,200 ft) Distance: 6 km (3.7 miles) Duration: 4–5 hours Description: Today’s trek takes you into the alpine desert zone, with increasingly dramatic landscapes. You'll arrive at Mawenzi Tarn, a high-altitude camp located at the base of Mawenzi Peak. This is an important acclimatization day.
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut

Elevation: 4,330 m (14,200 ft) to 4,700 m (15,419 ft) Distance: 9 km (5.6 miles) Duration: 5–6 hours Description: The terrain becomes more barren and rocky as you ascend. You'll hike across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. Kibo Hut is the last stop before the final summit push.
Day 6:Summit Day: Kibo Hut to Uhuru

Elevation: 4,700 m (15,419 ft) to 5,895 m (19,341 ft) to 3,720 m (12,204 ft) Distance: 19 km (11.8 miles) Duration: 12–15 hours Description: The final day begins with a midnight or early morning ascent to the summit (Uhuru Peak). This is the toughest part of the trek, as you’ll hike through the night to reach the summit just after sunrise. After taking in the breathtaking views, you will descend back to Horombo Hut for the night.
