Itinerary
Windhoek to Walvis Bay
The tour begins this morning at your hotel or guesthouse. The first stop is Daan Viljoen Game Reserve, west of Windhoek, offering excellent dry-country birding. From there, the journey descends the escarpment and crosses the stunning Namib Desert plains. Arriving in Walvis Bay by late afternoon, you'll settle into a well-located accommodation before heading to the renowned Walvis Bay Lagoon for afternoon birdwatching. The evening concludes with dinner at a quality local restaurant.
Lagoon Lodge Walvis Bay
Swakopmund and Damaraland
After an early breakfast at the lodge, the morning is dedicated to finding the Dune Lark. The journey then continues north to Damaraland, passing the iconic Spitzkoppe in the distance. Damaraland’s plains host unique bird species and desert-adapted wildlife such as African Elephant, Black Rhinoceros, and Lion, thriving against all odds in this harsh environment. By late afternoon, arrival is expected at a lodge near the Huab River, close to the towering Brandberg, Namibia’s highest peak.
Brandberg White Lady Lodge
Erongo Mountains
After an early breakfast, the morning is spent exploring the Huab River and surrounding Mopane woodlands. After lunch, the journey continues southeast to the dramatic granite landscapes of the Erongo region. This area is the prime location for the elusive Hartlaub’s Spurfowl. The lodge, nestled among the rocks, offers a perfect setting to conclude the tour. The evening includes dinner, updating bird lists, and relaxing on the deck with stunning views.
Omandumba Bush Camp
Erongo Mountains to Windhoek
The day begins with an early walk around the lodge.. A late breakfast follows, accompanied by the lively spectacle of Rosy-faced Lovebirds, often seen in large numbers during their morning foraging. After an eventful morning, the journey continues back to Windhoek, approximately two and a half hours southeast. Upon arrival, transfers are available to Hosea Kutako International Airport, your hotel, or, time permitting, one of Windhoek's birding hotspots for those with evening flights.
