Arusha or Moshi Town – Marangu Gate

Your guide will pick you up from Arusha or Moshi town and transfer you to Marangu Gate (1,870 m). Complete the registration process and begin your trek through the lush rainforest, encountering colobus monkeys and vibrant flora. Arrive at Mandara Hut (2,720 m) after approximately 4-5 hours of trekking. Settle in, enjoy a warm meal, and rest overnight in this cozy mountain lodge.

After an early breakfast, continue your ascent through the rainforest, transitioning into the moorland zone. Marvel at the exotic vegetation, including giant lobelias and groundsels. This leg takes about 6-8 hours, culminating at Horombo Hut (3,720 m). Enjoy panoramic views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks as you rest and rejuvenate over dinner in preparation for the next day’s trek.

Spend the day acclimatizing at Horombo Hut, an essential step to aid in altitude adjustment. This day helps increase your chances of a successful summit. Overnight at Horombo Hut, enjoying the camaraderie of fellow trekkers and guides.

Set off for Kibo Hut (4,700 m) after breakfast, trekking through the alpine desert with views of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This section is approximately 5-6 hours long, with a gradual climb leading to the hut. Rest and have an early dinner at Kibo Hut as you prepare for the final ascent at midnight. The anticipation of reaching Uhuru Peak builds as you settle in for a few hours of rest.

At midnight, begin the challenging push to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Trek through the darkness, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,685 m) before sunrise. Continue to Uhuru Peak, where the first light reveals the breathtaking landscape below. Capture unforgettable summit photos before descending to Kibo Hut for a brief rest. After lunch, trek back to Horombo Hut, then descend to Marangu Gate for your transfer back to Arusha or Moshi, where your journey concludes.
