Day 1: Machame Gate (1,800 m/5,905 ft) to Machame Camp (2,835 m/9,301 ft) Hiking Time: 5-7 hours Distance: 11 km (7 miles) Habitat: Rainforest After completing registration at Machame Gate, the trek begins through lush rainforest. The trail can be muddy and slippery. You'll reach Machame Camp by the late afternoon.

Day 3: Shira Camp (3,750 m/12,303 ft) to Lava Tower (4,600 m/15,092 ft) to Barranco Camp (3,976 m/13,044 ft) Hiking Time: 6-8 hours Distance: 10 km (6 miles) Habitat: Semi-desert This day focuses on acclimatization. You'll trek up to Lava Tower (a major landmark at 4,600 m) before descending to Barranco Camp, which helps your body adjust to the altitude.

Day 5: Karanga Camp (3,995 m/13,106 ft) to Barafu Camp (4,673 m/15,331 ft) Hiking Time: 3-4 hours Distance: 4 km (2.5 miles) Habitat: Alpine desert A shorter trek to Barafu Camp, your final camp before the summit. You’ll arrive by early afternoon, allowing time to rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,100 m/10,170 ft) to Mweka Gate (1,640 m/5,380 ft) Hiking Time: 3-4 hours Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles) Habitat: Rainforest A gentle descent through the rainforest takes you to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate and be transferred back to your accommodation. The Machame Route is known for its diverse scenery, gradual acclimatization profile, and challenging terrain, making it a favorite among trekkers.
