Safari summary

This adventure provides a rare chance to play an active role in conservation efforts focused on preserving Namibia's critically endangered desert elephants, while also helping to sustain the local communities that share their habitat with these remarkable animals.

This remarkable trek begins near the foothills of the majestic Brandberg Mountain and heads northwest, winding through expansive sand dunes and continuing toward the striking landscape of Doros Crater. From the crater, the route turns west to Hyena Camp, before finally looping south to conclude at the scenic Ugab River. Covering a total distance of 125 kilometers, this journey takes hikers through some of Namibia's most breathtaking and remote desert terrain.

For those seeking a balance between hiking and relaxation, there are flexible options available. Participants can choose to walk during the cooler mornings and then take a break in the afternoon by riding in a game drive vehicle to the next campsite. This combination allows for both an immersive walking experience and a more comfortable journey, ensuring everyone can enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife encounters at their own pace. Namibia's desert-dwelling elephants, while not a separate species from the savannah elephants (*Loxodonta africana*), are uniquely adapted to their environment and hold high national and international conservation importance. Recognized as a top priority for protection by the IUCN, these elephants inhabit the Kunene Region in northwest Namibia, a vast area of 115,154 km² characterized by sandy deserts, rugged mountains, and arid gravel plains.
