The Lemosho Route is renowned as the most scenic trail on Mount Kilimanjaro, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the mountain from various angles. The adventure begins with a drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate, followed by a trek through lush rainforest to the Shira Ridge. The route then traverses the Shira Plateau from west to east, providing a relatively flat and pleasant hike. Crowds are minimal until the route merges with the Machame Route near Lava Tower, and then it continues beneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu Camp. The descent is made via the Mweka Route.
On arrival day, upon arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be transferred to your hotel in Moshi, where you'll meet your Kizza Adventures guide. The guide will brief you on the trek and check your equipment, with any missing gear available for rent.
Day one, begins with a drive to Londorossi Gate and then a trek to Forest Camp (Big Tree Camp), ascending from 7,800 ft to 9,500 ft over 6 km. The hike takes you through a lush rainforest, home to wildlife such as buffalo, and ends with an overnight stay at the serene Forest Camp.
On Day two, you'll trek from Forest Camp to Shira One Camp, climbing from 9,500 ft to 11,500 ft over 8 km. This part of the trek takes you out of the rainforest and into the moorland zone, offering wide views as you reach the Shira Plateau, where you'll camp at Shira One Camp.
Day three,involves exploring the Shira Plateau, with a choice to stay at Shira 2 Camp or Moir Hut. You’ll hike from Shira One to Shira 2, gaining altitude to 13,800 ft over 14 km. This day provides ample acclimatization opportunities and stunning views of Kibo's glaciered peak.
On Day four, you'll trek from Moir Hut to Lava Tower and then to Barranco Camp, descending from 13,800 ft to 13,000 ft. This day features a gradual ascent through lava ridges beneath Kilimanjaro’s glaciers, a lunch stop near Lava Tower, and a descent into the Barranco Valley for camping.
Day five, involves a climb from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp, ascending from 13,000 ft to 13,100 ft. The trek includes a challenging climb up the Barranco Wall and continues across alpine desert terrain with stunning vistas of the Southern Ice Fields.
On Day six , you’ll trek from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp, climbing from 13,100 ft to 15,300 ft. This hike involves a steady ascent on compacted scree, reaching Barafu Camp in time for lunch. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the summit attempt.
Day seven, is the summit day, where you'll ascend from Barafu Camp to Crater Camp, climbing from 15,300 ft to 19,345 ft. The hike, which includes a daytime ascent to the crater rim and an afternoon descent to Crater Camp, offers a unique opportunity to explore the caldera and enjoy panoramic views.
Finally, on Day eight, after a night at Crater Camp, you'll make the short final summit bid and then descend to Mweka Camp. This final ascent, which is timed with sunrise for spectacular views, is followed by a descent through the heath zone to Mweka Camp, where you’ll spend the night.
On Day nine , you'll complete your adventure with a descent from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates. Afterward, you'll be transferred back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, concluding your incredible journey with Kizza Adventures.
