Luxury 6-Day Kilimanjaro Climb via the Machame Route with Kizza Adventures
Arrive in Tanzania
On your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be greeted by our friendly team and transferred to your comfortable hotel in Moshi. This day is dedicated to settling in and preparing for your trek. You’ll have a chance to meet your expert guide, who will provide a comprehensive briefing on the adventure ahead. An equipment check will ensure you have all necessary gear, and any missing items can be rented locally. This preparation sets the stage for a seamless and enjoyable trek.
Day one : Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Starting your adventure with a scenic drive through lush landscapes, you’ll reach the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate in about 50 minutes. From there, you’ll continue to the Machame starting point, where you'll enjoy a picnic lunch before beginning your trek. The hike through the vibrant rainforest, with its diverse flora and fauna, offers an immersive experience in Kilimanjaro’s lower montane forest. The trail can be muddy and slippery, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended. As you ascend to Machame Camp, situated at 3,100 meters, you'll experience the tranquility of the forest and prepare for the higher altitudes ahead.
Day two : Machame Camp to Shira Camp
After a nutritious breakfast, you’ll leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone, characterized by rocky ridges and expansive views. The path leads you across a dramatic valley and up a steep ridge to the Shira Plateau. The 9-kilometer trek brings you to Shira Camp at 3,840 meters, where the panoramic views of the plateau and the distant summit create a breathtaking backdrop. The open moorlands offer a unique contrast to the forested lower slopes, allowing you to appreciate the diverse landscapes of Kilimanjaro.
Day three : Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Today’s trek takes you on a scenic 15-kilometer journey across varying terrains. Starting with a gentle ascent, you'll pass the Lava Tower, a striking geological formation that adds an element of rugged beauty to the trek. The trek continues through semi-desert terrain, with stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s southwestern slopes. After a hearty lunch near Lava Tower, you’ll descend to Barranco Camp at 3,950 meters. The descent provides an opportunity to acclimate while enjoying the picturesque surroundings of the Great Barranco Valley.
Day four : Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Today's hike covers 9 kilometers and features a challenging ascent up the Barranco Wall, a steep and exhilarating climb that offers rewarding views of the mountain. The route then takes you through the Karanga Valley, where you’ll stop for lunch before continuing to Barafu Camp at 4,673 meters. This camp, situated in the alpine desert, offers a stunning vantage point to view both the summit and the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. Completing the South Circuit, this day highlights the diverse landscapes of Kilimanjaro and sets you up for the final summit push.
Day five : Barafu Camp to Summit and Descend to Mweka Camp
The summit day is the pinnacle of your adventure. Starting very early, you’ll make your way from Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. This challenging ascent covers 6 kilometers through scree and snow, with a final push to reach Stella Point on the crater rim before continuing to the summit. The sunrise from the peak is an awe-inspiring reward for your efforts. After celebrating at Uhuru Peak, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp, covering 13 kilometers. The descent, though long, offers a chance to reflect on your achievement as you return to lower altitudes.
Final day : Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, Drive to Arusha or Moshi
After a final breakfast on the mountain, you’ll descend through the lush forest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your well-deserved summit certificate. The descent, covering 10 kilometers, offers a different perspective of the mountain’s lower slopes. At the gate, you’ll be met by our vehicle for the drive back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. This final transfer allows you to unwind, enjoy a hot shower, and celebrate the completion of your incredible Kilimanjaro journey with Kizza Adventures
