Day three : Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut On the third day, your journey continues from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut. This leg covers 10 kilometers and ascends from 12,100 feet to 15,400 feet, taking 6-8 hours. The trail crosses the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi, transitioning into a stark, barren “moonscape.” This environment marks the final stretch before the summit attempt. The ascent to Kibo Hut is critical for acclimatization and prepares you for the challenging summit push. Day five : Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate On the final day, you’ll descend from Horombo Hut to the Marangu Gate. This 18-kilometer descent, taking 5-7 hours, takes you through a variety of landscapes, from moorlands to lush forests. The lower elevations provide a contrast to the high-altitude environment you’ve experienced. Upon reaching the Marangu Gate, a vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your luxury hotel in Moshi.
