Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts
Leaving the rainforest behind, we ascend through the open moorlands towards the Horombo encampment. The views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks are simply stunning. Look out for unique flora such as giant lobelias and grounsels as we gain altitude. You may start to feel the effects of the altitude, so it’s important to stay hydrated and take it slow. Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts
Today, we pass the last watering point and trek onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Vegetation becomes sparse, giving way to an otherworldly “moonscape.” We’ll spend the night at Kibo Hut, preparing ourselves mentally and physically for the summit push. Kibo Hut to Summit, then to Horomb
n the early hours of the morning, we embark on the final ascent to the summit. The terrain is steep and challenging, but the reward at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, is unparalleled. After soaking in the panoramic views, we descend back to Kibo Hut for a well-deserved rest before continuing down to Horombo encampment. Our final descent takes us through moorland and lush forests back to the Marangu Gate. The terrain may be muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles will come in handy. Once at the gate, a vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi, where you can relish in the memories of your epic adventure on Kilimanjaro.
