Itinerary

Day 1

Arusha | Lake Manyara

Day 1 Arusha – Lake Manyara National Park In the morning, we will collect you from your hotel and take you to the Lake Manyara National Park. Once you have reached the national park gate, your driver will open the roof of the vehicle, allowing you to better observe the wonderful wildlife and scenery. Ernest Hemingway spoke of this area as the most beautiful area that he had ever seen. It is easy to see why as to the West the Rift-Valley-Escarpment rises to almost 600m and to the East, the seemingly endless Masai Steppe stretches to the horizon. In between lays the shallow and alkaline Lake Manyara where the flamingos seem to turn the shallow waters into a pink colour. On the lake’s perimeter, a diverse range of animals can be seen such as elephants, giraffes, buffalos, antelopes and gazelles. The Lake Manyara National Park is also well known for its lions that like to climb the trees- something, which is quite unusual for big cats. In the late afternoon, you will leave the Lake Manyara National Park and spend the night at a nearby camping site. Lunch; Dinner

Day 2

Lake Manyara | Masai Mara | Serengeti

Day 2 Lake Manyara National Park – Serengeti National Park After breakfast, you will travel to the cooler regions high up at the crater before later reaching the southern Serengeti. Masai Mara National Park in Kenya, the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania create mutually one of the largest conservation areas in the world. Their combined aim is to maintain this intact wildlife ecosystem continuously- one of the few left in the world. The Serengeti National Park is famous for the ‘Great Migration’, over one million wildebeests and more than two hundred thousand zebras follow the rains each year. In October and November, these animals travel from the mountains of the North, southwards to the plains seeking lush pastures. After the great rain season in April, May and June, the herds then make their return journey. Even without this mass migration, the Serengeti is still an exciting and spectacular place that still cannot fail to enthral. You will camp for the night at a campsite in the Seronera area (central Serengeti). Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 3

Ngorongoro Crater | Serengeti

Day 3 Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area Dawn is the best time to watch wildlife and therefore, the first wildlife tour of the day takes place before breakfast. Afterwards, another explorative tour of the Serengeti National Park follows in which you can watch wildebeests and zebras next to lions and other big cats such as leopards and cheetahs in the Seronera region. You will have lunch at a picnic spot before you slowly drive towards the Ngorongoro Crater. On the way, you will pass the Oldupai Gorge where the English couple, Louis and Mary Leak, pioneered archaeological excavation work. In the sixties, some of the earliest archaeological deposits of human evolution were found here and a small museum (visit optional) reports these discoveries. Once you reach the crater’s rim, you will be able to see into this massive caldera and down to its floor, which lies 600m below. You will camp on the craters edge where you can enjoy the wonderful view across the caldera as the sun sets. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 4

Arusha | Ngorongoro Crater

Day 4 Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha Breakfast will be at the break of day followed by a drive on a small road through a forested region to the crater’s floor where the landscape slowly turns into a savannah with scattered acacia trees. At the craters floor, the wildlife is just breathtaking; with a little luck, you can observe the big five – lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinoceros and leopards – in just a few hours. You will also be able to observe warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, antelopes, hippopotami and many more. After a morning full of wildlife watching, you will have lunch in the crater before you return to Arusha in the afternoon. Breakfast; Lunch
