Moshi to Rongai Gate, Simba Camp
Kilimanjaro
After breakfast, drive to the Rongai Gate (1,950m/6,398ft), the starting point of your trek. Complete registration formalities and begin your ascent through dense montane forest. Trek along gentle slopes to Simba Camp (2,615m/8,580ft), where you'll set up camp, enjoy dinner, and spend the night.
Simba Camp to Second Cave
Wake up to the sounds of the forest and continue your journey towards Second Cave (3,450m/11,319ft). Trek through lush vegetation, including giant heathers and ferns, as you gain elevation. Arrive at Second Cave in the afternoon, where you'll set up camp, rest, and acclimatize to the increasing altitude.
Second Cave to Kikelewa Camp
Kilimanjaro
Depart Second Cave and trek towards Kikelewa Camp (3,600m/11,811ft), nestled amidst moorland scenery with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Traverse rocky terrain and rolling hills, encountering unique flora along the way. Arrive at Kikelewa Camp in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing for the next day's ascent.
Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp
Continue your ascent towards Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m/14,206ft), situated beneath the towering cliffs of Mawenzi Peak. Trek through alpine desert terrain, crossing vast expanses of volcanic rock and boulders. Arrive at Mawenzi Tarn Camp in the early afternoon and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Rest and acclimatize for the summit push.
Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Horombo Hut
Wake up before midnight for a light breakfast before beginning the summit attempt. Trek through the darkness, guided by the light of your headlamps, towards Gilman's Point (5,681m/18,638ft) on the crater rim. From Gilman's Point, continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft), the highest point in Africa. Reach the summit in time to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the African plains.
Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Kilimanjaro
Descend through moorland and montane forest to Marangu Gate (1,860m/6,102ft), where you'll receive your summit certificates. Bid farewell to your guides and porters before transferring back to Moshi. Celebrate your Kilimanjaro conquest with a well-deserved meal and comfortable accommodations.
