Arrival in Moshi

Upon arrival in Moshi, a town located at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, you'll be transferred to your hotel. This day is typically reserved for rest and acclimatisation. You can explore the town, prepare your gear, and meet your climbing team and guides. They will provide a briefing about the upcoming trek and answer any questions you may have.

In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, you'll be driven to Marangu Gate, which is the starting point of the Marangu route. After completing the necessary registration and formalities, the trek begins through a lush rainforest. The trail is well-maintained and offers a gentle ascent. Along the way, you'll have opportunities to spot unique flora and fauna.

The day starts with a delicious breakfast before continuing the trek. Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail transitions into moorland. You'll pass through open grasslands, encountering unique plant species such as giant lobelias and senecios. The scenery becomes more dramatic as you approach the base of Kilimanjaro. Horombo Hut provides stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and serves as a crucial acclimatisation point.

Day 4 is dedicated to acclimatisation to enhance your chances of reaching the summit successfully. You'll have the option to take a short hike to Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Tarn, both of which offer breathtaking views. This day allows your body to adjust to the increasing altitude and helps prevent altitude sickness. You'll return to Horombo Hut for another overnight stay.

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

The summit day begins in the middle of the night, usually around midnight, to ensure reaching the summit at sunrise. You'll start the final ascent from Kibo Hut, covering a distance of approximately 4 kilometres. The hiking time can vary greatly, ranging from 6 to 8 hours. The route becomes steeper and more challenging, particularly during the last section known as the "Uhuru Peak Shuffle.

" Finally, you'll reach the majestic Uhuru Peak, standing proudly at 5,895 metres above sea level. After savouring the accomplishment and capturing breathtaking views, you'll begin the descent back to Kibo Hut for a short rest. From there, you'll continue descending to Horombo Hut, located at 3,720 metres, where you'll spend your last night on the mountain.
