Machame Gate to Machame Camp

After breakfast, you'll drive to the Machame Gate, which serves as the starting point of the climb. From the gate, you'll hike through the rainforest, gradually ascending to Machame Camp

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Kilimanjaro

Today's hike will take you through moorland and heath, gradually gaining altitude. You'll pass through the Shira Plateau and eventually reach Shira Camp, where you'll spend the night.

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

The route will take you east towards the Lava Tower, at an altitude of 4,600 m (15,100 ft), for acclimatisation purposes. Afterward, you'll descend to Barranco Camp, situated in a beautiful valley.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today's trek involves some challenging sections, including the famous Barranco Wall. You'll climb up the wall using established trails and then hike across ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Kilimanjaro

The trail continues upward, passing through alpine desert terrain. You'll reach Barafu Camp, your final campsite before the summit attempt. In the evening, you'll rest and prepare for the summit push.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak

You'll start the summit attempt at midnight, hiking in the darkness with headlamps. Climbing through steep sections, you'll reach Stella Point (5,756 m/18,885 ft) on the crater rim. From there, it's a relatively flat walk to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After enjoying the summit, you'll descend to Mweka Camp, where you'll spend the night.
