Arrival in Tanzania

You will arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and be transferred to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, where you can rest and prepare for the climb. You may have a briefing with your tour operator and meet your guide, who will provide you with important information about the climb.

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

After breakfast, you will be driven to the Machame Gate (1,800 metres) on the south side of the mountain. From there, you'll begin your trek through the rainforest. The hike to Machame Camp (3,000 metres) typically takes around 5-7 hours, and you'll spend the night there.

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

On the second day of the climb, you'll ascend through the heather and moorland zones. You'll pass through a steep ridge called Picnic Rock and continue to Shira Camp (3,840 metres) for the night. This day's hike usually takes around 4-6 hours.

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

Today's hike will take you to the Lava Tower (4,600 metres), where you'll experience higher altitude. This is a crucial point for acclimatisation. From there, you'll descend to Barranco Camp (3,950 metres) to sleep. The trek usually takes around 6–8 hours.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

This day involves climbing the Barranco Wall, which is a steep yet manageable section of the route. After reaching the top of the wall, you'll hike through alpine desert terrain to Karanga Camp (4,035 metres). The trek takes around 4-5 hours.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Kilimanjaro
You'll continue ascending through the alpine desert on this day, heading to Barafu Camp (4,680 metres). This campsite serves as the base for your summit attempt. The trek usually takes around 3–4 hours. Once at Barafu Camp, you'll rest, have an early dinner, and prepare for the summit climb.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak
Kilimanjaro
This is the summit day! You'll start your climb around midnight, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 metres) before sunrise. The ascent usually takes 6–8 hours and involves a demanding trek on steep and snowy terrain. Once you reach the summit, you'll have time to celebrate and take pictures before descending to Mweka Camp (3,100 metres) for the night.
