Lemosho Glades to Mti Mkubwa Camp

The trek begins at the Lemosho Glades gate, where you will complete the necessary registration formalities. The first day involves a relatively easy hike through the lush rainforest.

Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 2 Camp

The trail gradually ascends through the heather and moorland zones. You will have stunning views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak.

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

The trail takes you to the Lava Tower, at an elevation of 4,630 metres, where you will experience the first signs of high altitude. Afterward, you descend to Barranco Camp, which is situated in a beautiful valley beneath the Great Barranco Wall.

The day starts with a steep climb up the Barranco Wall, which requires some scrambling. From the top, you will have amazing panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The trail then descends into the Karanga Valley.

The trail gradually ascends through alpine desert terrain. You will reach Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt.
