Rongai Gate / Nalemoru - Simba Camp

In the morning, you’ll be picked up from your hotel and driven to the Rongai Gate to start your trek. After completing park registration, you’ll head through a scenic native village and enjoy a hot lunch at the gate. The trek begins through lush rainforest, with paths winding through a canopy of green. You’ll experience the vibrant sounds of nature and might spot blue monkeys or Black and White Colobus. Your first night will be spent at Simba Camp (2650m), you’ll settle in after a 3-4 hour hike.

Simba Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Today’s trek takes you across the Shira Plateau, a landscape of grassy moorland dotted with volcanic rocks. The route offers stunning views of Kibo Peak and, as you climb, you’ll enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding plains. You’ll reach Shira 2 Camp, where higher altitude helps with acclimatization. The hike will take 6-9 hours, giving you a chance to admire the diverse scenery and prepare for the days ahead.

Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp

On this day our hike begins with a climb with sweeping panoramic views, a hike up into the mountain desert climate zone and on the lava ridges below the Gap glaciers to the west.We reach the striking peak of Lava Tower (4640m), our highest point of the day and a great place to enjoy our delicious lunch. In the afternoon we make a steep descent to Barranco Camp, where we spend the night. It lies at the foot of the Great Barranco Valley (3960 m).

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Our day begins with the descent to the beginning of the Great Gorge. We then set off abruptly and climb the Great Barranco Wall, which separates us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo. It's a climb over rocks, not technical, but long and arduous.Below the Heim and Kersten glaciers we pass the Karanga Valley. From here it is a steep climb uphill from the Karanga Valley to our overnight camp at Karanga Camp at 3963m. For those feeling strong, we will undertake

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

After a restful night and breakfast, we start our hike to Barafu Camp at 4640 m. The climb takes us along deserted scree slopes with no vegetation around us.It is a strenuous and steep hike, made even more difficult by the altitude. After arriving at camp we will eat and spend the afternoon resting as we prepare for a long night and the next day. It's important to stay hydrated and warm. We will have an early dinner and then try to get some sleep as we will get up between 11am and 12pm.

Barafu Camp - Uhuru -millennium

We started around midnight and headed steeply towards the summit glaciers. We will climb scree for 4 to 5 hours, but after a short time we will gain incredible height. The view is spectacular. We were supposed to be on the crater rim at Stella Point (5739 m) when the first rays of sun hit us. Spectacular ice cliffs in the crater surround us and the views of the rugged Mawenzi Peak and beyond are breathtaking.After another hour of walking we reach the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895 m).

Millennium Camp to Mweka Camp

Today is a short day to explore the places near Millennium Camp in the morning. After lunch we undertake an easy hike that takes us through the rainforest to Mweka Camp. Here we will set up camp, where we will enjoy a delicious dinner and spend the night.

After a well-deserved breakfast we embark on a short and scenic 3 hour walk back to the park gate. Please note that tips are not offered. It will be delivered en route until all your equipment and the rest of the crew arrive safely at the door. However, remember to tip your staff at the door. At the Mweka door you sign your name and enter the details in a register.Then the vehicle will pick us up and we will return to Moshi where you will be transferred to your hotel
