The trip to Kibale forest
Kibale
We drive to Kibale Forest in Western Uganda. The green landscape with tea plantations and crop fields along the way is so beautiful. A stop in Fort Portal for lunch and a look at the local life is worth it. We continue to the lodge with the forest and Crater lake below.
Chimpanzee Guest Lodge
Following Chimpanzees in Kibale
Kibale
In the morning, we go to the forest to find the chimpanzees. A moment with the chimpanzees in the middle of the jungle is unforgettable. Chimps are very active in the morning and it is the best time to see them. They eat leaves and fruits in trees and on the ground. Sometimes they hunt monkeys and share their meat. The Kibale forest park is a big primary forest with forest elephants, many primates. We return for lunch and relax in the afternoon or take a nature walk in the nearby Bigodi swamp.

Going to the Gorillas in Bwindi
Bwindi Impenetrable
We drive southwards through the countryside and Queen Elizabeth national park to Bwindi Forest. There are crater lakes and wild animals to see along the way. In fact, we cross the Equator to the southern hemisphere. We reach Bwindi forest in the afternoon.
Rushaga Gorilla Camp
Seeing the Gorillas in Uganda
Bwindi Impenetrable
In the morning, we register for the Gorilla trek. We take some time in the forest to find the Gorillas. However, when we find them, we spend an hour with the Gorillas as they relax, play, feed and move about. The Gorillas live in a family with babies and mothers headed by a Silverback. Gorillas are vegetarians and mostly eat leaves, fruits and bamboo shoots. After the trekking, we return to the lodge and rest in the afternoon.
Rushaga Gorilla Camp
Exploring Lake Bunyonyi
We drive to Lake Bunyonyi and relax at the lodge above the lake. This is the second deepest lake in Africa after Lake Tanganyika. It is dotted with many islands and surrounded with beautiful terraced hills. In the afternoon, we take a boat cruise around the islands. The two particular Islands that may be of interest are the Leprosy and punishment Islands. This are places of history and past cultures.
