Mount Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania and an excellent acclimatization climb before tackling Kilimanjaro or just an amazing 3-4 day hike in its own right. Generally considered an easier climb it will still prove a challenge to most adventurers. The views are stunning. Mount Meru (4,566 m) is an active stratovolcano and forms the centrepiece of Arusha National Park in Tanzania. The mountain is often referred to as Mt Kilimanjaro's 'little brother'. Although the mountain is not as high as Kilimanjaro, it is just as challenging.

KILIMANJARO AIRPORT.

Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, pick up and transfer to Kizumba House or similar for overnight. Overnight at Kizumba House (bed and breakfast) or Similar.

MOMELLA GATE | MIRIAKAMBA HUT

Arusha

Drive from Arusha to Momella Gate. After a short registration at the Momella Gate, our walk begins with a fully armed ranger escorting us on the hike. Along the way, you will see wild animals including buffalo, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, antelopes, and often elephants. Dinner and overnight at Miriakamba Hut.

MIRIAKAMBA HUT | SADDLE HUT

Arusha

The walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short day but a steep climb. The walk will take you slowly along the ridge for a spectacular view of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone. After a hot lunch at Saddle Hut, you can make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820 m) for superb views just before sunset. Dinner and overnight at Saddle Hut.

SADDLE HUT | SUMMIT SOCIALIST PEAK

Arusha

We start early at around 1:30 am for a steep climb to Rhino Point (3,800 m) then on to Cobra Point (4350m). We reach the summit (4,566 m) in time for sunrise. There is a possibility of seeing Mt. Kilimanjaro's Peak above the clouds. The final part of the climb is along a spectacular narrow ridgeline between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater. We take a short rest and brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to Momella gate.
