Safari summary

Join our 5-day Wildebeest Migration Calving Season safari to see the magic of new life unfold in the Ndutu region of the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and Tarangire National Park. During this special time from December to March, up to 8000 wildebeest babies are born each day, making it one of our most popular safari experiences.

In January the herds begin making their way to the south of the Serengeti after the rains start falling. The question of how the herds know when it is raining or not is something many people have questioned and the answer is that we actually do not know! Many people say that they can smell the rain, others believe they can sense when the pressure in the air changes. The only thing we know for sure is that where it rains, the herds follow. Within a two to three-week time period, over half a million wildebeest are born with as many as 8 000 wildebeest being born on the same day!

This 5-day Ndutu migration safari during calving tours holidays and travel package have been designed specifically to focus on and to increase your chance to see the great Serengeti wildebeest migration in the Ndutu region, where the land is nourished by rain and volcanic soil, around half a million young wildebeest come into the world in just a few weeks. The grass here is short but packed with essential nutrients, creating the perfect conditions for the wildebeest to give birth.

As the herd grows, predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs start their year-long hunt. With so many young and vulnerable calves around, it's easy for these predators to find a tasty meal.

Come be a part of this amazing safari, where you'll witness the beauty of life and the challenges faced by wildebeest during their calving season.
