Safari summary
Trekking Kilimanjaro in 6 days through the Machame route and descending via the Marangu route offers a unique adventure. This 6 days Kilimanjaro journey is special because you go up one way and come down another way, providing different views. Both paths are beautiful, taking you through various environments like tropical jungle, mountain heath, alpine, and finally, the snowy peak.
However, choosing this option means paying double the fees, which might be more expensive than the regular 6-day Machame route, where you descend via Mweka.
The Machame route, also called the 'Whiskey' route, is the most popular way to reach the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. It's known for its scenic beauty but is considered challenging due to its steep and shorter itinerary. The journey starts from the south, guiding you through a rainforest to Shira Plateau, where different Kilimanjaro routes meet. The climb begins in a lush rainforest, offering occasional views of Mt. Meru, Shira Ridge, and the main summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro – Kibo.
In the 6-day variation, days four and five are combined, taking you from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp without staying at Karanga. The Machame route has steeper paths and higher altitudes compared to the Marangu and Rongai routes, making it a bit more challenging."
