Machame Gate to Machame Camp

The first day of the climb begins at the Machame Gate, where hikers are required to register with the park rangers and receive a briefing on the climb. From there, the trail leads through the rainforest, where hikers can see a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, birds, and insects. The trail is well-marked and easy to follow, with many signs pointing out interesting features and landmarks along the way.After about 3-4 hours of hiking, the trail reaches the Machame Camp.

The second day of the climb begins early in the morning, with hikers leaving the Machame Camp and continuing up the mountain. The trail passes through the rainforest and moorland zones, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. As the trail gains elevation, hikers reach the Shira Plateau, which is a flat area of land that offers panoramic views of the mountain and the surrounding landscape. The Shira Camp is located on the plateau, here that hikers do acclimatize to high altitude.

The fifth day of the climb begins early in the morning, with hikers leaving the Barafu Camp and making the final ascent to the summit. The trail is steep and rocky, and hikers will need to use their hands to climb in some places. At the top of the mountain, hikers will reach Uhuru Peak, which is the highest point in Africa and the highest summit in the world that can be reached without technical climbing equipment. Then, the trail descends down to the Mweka Camp, located in the forest zone.
