Londrossi Gate to Forest Camp

Elevation (ft): 7,800ft to 9,500ft Distance: 6 km. Climbing Time: 3–4 hours Habitat: Rain Forest We depart Moshi for Londrossi Gate, which takes about 1 hour and 47 minutes, where you will complete entry formalities. Then drive to the Lemosho trailhead. Upon arrival at the trailhead, we eat lunch and then proceed through undisturbed forest, which winds to the first campsite.

Elevation (ft): 9,500ft to 11,500ft Distance: 8 km. Climbing Time: 5–6 hours Habitat: Moorland Continuing on the trail, we venture beyond the forest, entering a savannah adorned with tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rock embellished with lichen beards. Progressing upward through the lush, undulating hills, we traverse numerous streams until we attain the Shira Ridge. Descending gracefully, we arrive at Shira 1 camp, where the astounding panorama of Kibo unfolds across the plateau

Shira Camp 1 - Shira 2 to Moir Hut

Elevation (ft): 11,500ft to 13,800 ft Distance: 14 km Hiking Time: 5-7 hours Habitat: Moorland We explore the Shira plateau for a full day. It is a gentle walk east toward Kibo’s glaciated peak, across the plateau that leads to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream. Then we continue to Moir Hut, a little-used site at the base of Lent Hills. A variety of walks are available on Lent Hills, making this an excellent acclimatization opportunity.

Moir to Lava Tower - Barranco Camp

Elevation (ft): 13,800ft to 13,000ft Distance: 7 km Hiking Time: 4-6 hours Habitat: Semi Desert From Shira Plateau, we head east, bypass Kibo's peak junction, and go southeast to Lava Tower, "Shark's Tooth." Reach the second junction, ascend to Arrow Glacier (16,000 feet), then descend to Barranco Hut (13,000 feet). Vital for acclimatization, this day prepares us for the summit, providing respite, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Barranco to Karanga to Barafu Camp

Elevation (ft): 13,000ft to 15,000ft Distance: 9km Hiking Time: 8–10 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Post breakfast, we depart Barranco, traverse a steep ridge, and pass Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley campsite. Leaving Karanga, we reach the Mweka Trail junction and ascend to Barafu Hut, marking the South Circuit completion with varied summit views. Camp is set for preparation, rest, dinner, and a glimpse of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

Barafu Camp to Summit - Mweka Camp

In predawn (midnight to 2 a.m.), ascend to the summit between Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Head northwest to Stella Point, the trek's toughest stretch. At Stella Point (18,600 ft), pause for a sunrise. Snow may accompany your 1-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, the continent's zenith. Descend directly to Mweka Hut camp; have lunch at Barafu. Gaiters and trekking poles are vital for the gravel descent. The evening marks the final mountain dinner, followed by a well-deserved night's rest.

Mweka Camp to Moshi

Elevation (ft): 10,000ft to 5,400ft Distance: 10 km Hiking Time: 3-4 hours Post breakfast, descend to Mweka Park Gate for summit certificates. Lower elevations may be wet; gaiters and trekking poles are helpful. Dress in shorts and T-shirts, but keep rain gear and warm clothes ready. Proceed another hour to Mweka Village from the gate. A vehicle at Mweka Village takes you back to the Kilimanjaro White House Hotel in Moshi, where meals are served on a bed-and-breakfast basis.

Arusha to Tarangire to Mto wa Mbu

You will travel from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, immersing yourself in vast termite mounds and ancient baobab trees. Witness herds of African elephants dominating the golden savannah and the calls of yellow-collared lovebirds echoing. Tarangire's scenic landscape hosts lions, giraffes, warthogs, ostriches, impalas, cheetahs, mongoose, buffaloes, and baboons. We will begin our day with an early morning game drive in the central Serengeti.
