This 6 days lemosho route Kilimanjaro Hiking is one of the best tour packages for hiking and successful summit at 5895m, it is dedicated to trekkers who are short on time but with some experience in high – attitude due to insufficient acclimatization which results to the challenge of reaching the summit (Uhuru Peak) 19,340ft above the sea level. The departure normally done in Moshi town, starting with a drive for approx. 3hrs to Lemosho gate, hiking crossing Lava Tower – Barancco to Barafu the base camp before reaching the summit at Uhuru Peak and then descending via Mweka route to Mweka gate then back to Moshi.
This 6-day lemosho route starts on the western side of the mountain at the Lemosho Gate and has a low level of acclimatization because it skips the acclimatization day at Karanga Camp, so trekkers will have less time to acclimatize before attempting the summit. This route is ideal balance of low crowds,beautiful scenery and the route traverse’s underneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu Camp then descent via the Mweka route - gate back to Moshi.
Day 1: Moshi - Mti Mkubwa Camp, Day 2: to Shira 1 Camp, Day 3: to Shira 2 Camp, Day 4: to Barranco Camp - karanga -Barafu camp Day 5: to Uhuru Peak, Day 6: to Mweka Camp - Gate - Moshi.

Moshi - Lemosho Gate - Mti Mkubwa

Start our adventure by leaving Moshi for a 3 hours’ drive to Londorosi gate, after all the formalities are handled, the drive will continue for one hour to Lemosho trailhead. After arrival lunch will be served and we will start hiking through the wild and thick rainforest which leads to the first camp Elevation: 7,800ft- 9,500ft Distance: 6 km Hiking time: 3-4 hours Habitat: rain forest

Mti Mkubwa - Shira 2 Camp

Today after breakfast we start our trek of the day which will take us about 8 to 10 hours. The journey of today is 18 kilometers through volcanic rocks that are draped by lichen beards. The trek is very scenic as we pass through rolling hills and stream till we reach to Shira Camp 1 when we will have a break for lunch. After lunch we proceed to Shira Camp 2 via Kibo glacier peak. Shira 2 Camp -Lava Tower - Barranco

On this day we trek for 6 to 8 hours covering a journey of 10 Kilometers. We continue to the East up to the ridge through the junction towards the Kibo Peak. The direction will shortly change to the South East to the Lava tower called the Sharks Tooth. The trek will continue down to the Barranco Hut where we will have our tents and rest for the rest of the day. Elevation: 3840m – 4630m Habitat: Semi Desert Distance Covered: 15 km

Our day begins by descending into the start of the Great Barranco wall, which divides us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo. It’s a climb over rock, not technical but long and tiring. From here we have a steep climb up from Karanga valley to our night’s campsite at Karanga camp. Then we proceed to Barafu Camp where we will rest and enjoy dinner as we prepare for the summit on the next day. Barafu Camp - Uhuru Peak - Mweka

Today we will wake up around midnight, have some tea and snacks and dress up warm for the summit. You will start crossing the zigzag area and keep moving to the crater rim and finally Stella point. You will be able to see the sunrise at Stella point or on your way to Uhuru or at Uhuru peak. You will stay for 10 – 15 minutes for pictures and view, and after, descend to Barafu Campsite for resting brunch and later on descend to Mweka Camp. Mweka Camp - Moshi

Today after breakfast, we will continue the descent down to the Mweka Gate (1640m) to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). From the Mweka gate, our vehicle will be ready to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi for a hot shower and long rest Distance Covered: 9.1km Time to be used: 3hrs
