This 6–day lemosho route Kilimanjaro Hiking is one of the best tour packages for hiking and successful summit at 5895m, it is dedicated to trekkers who are short on time but with some experience in high – attitude due to insufficient acclimatization for high chance of reaching the peak (Uhuru) 19,340ft above the sea level. The departure normally done in Moshi town, starting with a drive for approx. 3hrs to Lemosho gate, hiking acrossing Lava Tower – Barancco to Barafu the base camp before the summit at Uhuru Peak and then descending via Mweka route - gate back to Moshi.
This 6-day lemosho route starts on the western side of the mountain at the Lemosho Gate and has a low level of acclimatization because it skips the acclimatization day at Karanga Camp, therefore it make a long day hiking from Baranco to Barafu the base camp before the summit, this lead to reduce a chance to summit so trekkers will have less time to acclimatize before attempting the summit. This route is ideal balance of low crowds,beautiful scenery and the route traverse’s underneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu Camp then descent via the Mweka route - gate back to Moshi.

Itinerary

Moshi - Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Following breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the Lemosho Gate (2,385m), where you can register with the Kilimanjaro National Park authorities. In order to reach Big Tree Camp (2,780m), you will then begin your trek through the verdant rainforest from there. Dinner will be served, and you’ll spend the night in a tent.

Mti Mkubwa Camp

Mti Mkubwa - Shira 1 Camp.

Following breakfast, you’ll carry on your hike through the jungle and into the heathlands. After arriving at Shira 1 Camp (3,505m), you’ll have lunch there before continuing on to the Shira Plateau for a quick acclimatization hike and then making your way back to Shira 1 Camp for dinner and the night.

Shira 1 Camp

Shira 1 Camp - Shira 2 Camp

You will continue your hike to Shira 2 Camp (3,840m) after breakfast across the Shira Plateau. You’ll stop for lunch along the way, which will take about 4-6 hours. You will have dinner and stay overnight in a tent.

Shira 2 Camp

Shira 2 Camp - Barranco Camp.

Following breakfast, you’ll begin your day with a steady ascent to Lava Tower (4,640m), a volcanic formation that provides breathtaking views of the surroundings. Next, you will descend to Barranco Camp (3,950m), where you will spend the night and have dinner.

Baranco Camp

Baranco - Barafu Camp

A challenging ascent of the Barranco Wall will be your day’s first task after breakfast. Although this can be difficult, the scenery is spectacular. You will trek to Barafu Camp (4,600m), within 3 to 4 hours. The final camp before the summit attempt, after reaching the summit, through the mountain desert. After eating dinner and getting some rest, you’ll get up at midnight to attempt the summit.

Barafu Camp

Mweka Camp - Gate - Moshi

The ascent to the summit will begin early on day seven (around midnight). Approximately 1,295 meters of elevation are gained during the 6- to 8-hour trek. You will reach the summit, Uhuru Peak (5,895m), just before sunrise. Prior to beginning your descent to Mweka Camp (3,080m), you will have some time to pause and take pictures while taking in the scenery. You will have dinner and stay overnight in a dormitory-style, and then get ready to start the journey back to Moshi Town.
