Sirimon route trek Mt Kenya

Day 2: With your packed lunches hike past steep slopes towards the Shipton’s Camp. You will pass through Likii and Mackinder’s Valley. You will view giant groundsels along this route and breathtaking scenery.  The hike this day takes between 6 to 8 hours and it is 17 km. Check in at Shipton’s Camp. From here you can easily view the 3 highest peaks of Batian, Nelion & Lenana. Temperatures here can reach minus 10 degrees celcius. Overnight at the Shipton’s Camp ( 4,200 metres). Full board

Kilimanjaro | Mount Kenya | Nairobi

Day 4: Breakfast. Take the 4 hour descent to the Old Moses Camp where you will have lunch. Trek on to the Sirimon Gate. Here, you link up with your transport for Nairobi and are dropped off at the Airport or Nairobi Hotel. Breakfast and lunch      Information on Mount Kenya: It is a UNESCO world listed site. In comparison, what Mt. Kilimanjaro offers in altitude, Mt. Kenya surpasses in beauty.   It is the second highest mountain in Africa, standing @ 5199 m above sea level at point Batian. It is an ancient dormant volcano and last erupted some 3.5 million years ago.  It is one of the most scenic volcanic mountains in the world. It can be described as roughly circular, about 60 kms.  across at 200mm contour. It’s main peaks rise sharply from around 4,500 m. It has rare afro alpine moorland. Lower slopes host  dense tropical rainforest and  a bamboo forest. The wildlife at Mount Kenya National Park include: elephant, tree hyrax, white tailed mongoose, suni, fronted duicker, mole rat, bush buck, water buck, buffaloes, eland, lion, leopard, bushbuck, giant forest hog, the endangered bongo and rhino & over one hundred and thirty species of birds. Activities here include: Game viewing, Mountain trekking, plant naming, bird watching and hiking. What to bring: Binoculars, camera, hat , sun screen, sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes, guide books, trekking poles, sleeping bags, umbrella, sandals, socks, gaiters.  Trekking tip:  Ensure you regulate your pace, take it easy and always keep hydrated.
