Machame Gate to Machame Camp

According to the Machame Route departure dates and costs, it takes 50 minutes to get from Moshi to the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate to begin our Kilimanjaro climbing. On their route to the Machame gate, hikers will travel through the settlement of Machame, which is located on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. After leaving the park, the hiker(s) will head up a winding path through a rain forest.

After breakfast, we depart the rain forest's glades and proceed uphill, traversing the valley over a precarious rocky ridge. Until we reach the Shira campground, the trail now curves to the west via a river gorge.

This is a long and challenging day, covering a distance of around 10 km (6 miles) with a net elevation gain of 720 meters (2,360 feet).
