Attempting the climb by the Marangu route is the quickest way to the summit and also the most popular. This route approaches Kilimanjaro from the southeast, crossing the slopes via a variety of fascinating landscapes including moorland and forest, before changing to alpine and arctic. At the lower altitudes, there are good opportunities to observe a wonderful variety of mammals, birds, insects and plant life, including towering eucalyptus trees and Colobus monkeys.
Bush 2 City Adventure trekkers are accommodated in comfortable huts throughout this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Technically, this route allows completion within five days, but as responsible operators, we provide an extra day to facilitate acclimatization. This will maximize the chances of successfully 'summiting' this truly iconic mountain.

Day 1
Arusha | Kilimanjaro
Day 1: Kilimanjaro International Airport - Arusha Touchdown at the Kilimanjaro International Airport where your own personal driver will be waiting to greet you. Let your driver whisk you away to your chosen hotel in the bright and bustling city of Arusha – gateway to Tanzania. Arusha is the beating heart of the wild – the last port of civilization before heading out into dense jungles and rich savannah plains. The markets of Arusha burst with color, and throng with locals picking up their weekly wages. The numerous cafes sell dark and deliriously good coffee from the plantations, and close by the infamous National Park lures visitors in to explore her evocative Maasai culture and exotic flora and fauna. Today you can relax in Arusha, enjoy a quick de-briefing about your trip, recover from your journey, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere of Africa.
Day 2
Arusha | Kilimanjaro
Day 2: Arusha - Marangu gate – Mandara Hut After breakfast at the hotel, you will check out and depart to Marangu Gate, about 4 hours’ drive from Arusha town, as a getaway point to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, and you will be accompanied by guide and crews all the way. After completing the registration process at the gate you will start to trek toward Mandara Hut as the first where you will spend your overnight. The walk will take you about 3 to 4 hours and you will cover an altitude of 1900 meters up to 2720 meters. Along the way, you will have enough time to rest and have lunch before proceeding with the trek while learning about the mountain history, vegetation and different species of wildlife found at the park such as birds and animals.
Day 3
Day 3: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut In the morning around 8:30 am after breakfast start trekking to Horombo hut. After about 1 hour, you will leave the glades of the rain forest and follow an ascending path on the open moorlands to the Horombo hut. The view of Kibo summit and Mawenzi are both stunning and shining on clear days. In most cases, giant lobelias and groundsels are found on your way. Horombo hut is a point where most of the climbers use it for acclimatization whereby they spend an extra day. Spending an extra day give a wide change for the successful summit the roof of Africa, remember extra is available on request.
Day 4
Kilimanjaro
Day 4: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut After having a good night rest at the camp followed an early breakfast, you will depart from Mandara Hut and trek all the way up to Horombo Hut where you will spend your third night on the Mountain. A total of 11 km will be covered during the day that will take approximately six hours with an altitude rise up to 3720 meters. Along the way, you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mount Kilimanjaro that consists of the various landscapes such as a clear view of the snow-capped peak of Kibo and Mawenzi peak, forest and animals which together they will fill you with lifetime memories to cherish. During the trek, you will have time to break for lunch and learn about different and fascinating plant species found along the way such giant groundsels, lobelias. After hours of trek finally, late in the afternoon, you will arrive at the camp in time for your dinner, relaxation, and overnight.
Day 5
Day 5: Kibo Hut – Summit “Uhuru Peak” and Horombo Very early in the morning, you will be awakened by your guide for a cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate with some snacks. After a warm up start to the summit of Africa, The trek will take you to Gilman’s point located on the crater rim at 18,640 ft / 5,861 m (4-7 hours). Continuing you now ascend to Uhuru Peak, which is the highest point in Africa: 19,340 ft / 5,895 m (1-2 hours). You will need a flashlight, camera, sunglass as well as warm clothes as it gets too cold. While at the summit you will take your pictures and thereafter start descending down to Kibo hut for breakfast and a rest before proceeding to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 6
Arusha
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate & Hotel After breakfast, a steady descent takes us down through moorland to Mandara Hut (2,700m / 8,858 ft), the first stopping place of the Marangu route. Continue descending through lovely lush forest on a good path to the National Park gate at Marangu (1,830 m / 6,004 ft.). A vehicle will meet you at Marangu village to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
