Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp After breakfast, you'll travel to the Machame Gate, the starting point of your trek. From there, you'll hike through lush rainforest trails to reach Machame Camp, located at an altitude of approximately 3,000 meters (9,840 feet). This first day is relatively gentle, allowing you to acclimatize

On day 2, you will continue your ascent through the rainforest, which gradually transitions into moorland. You'll hike across stunning valleys and ridges until you reach Shira Camp, situated at around 3,840 meters (12,600 feet). The views of the surrounding landscape are attractive

Shira Camp- Lava Tower-Barranco

We continue to the east up a ridge and then head southeast towards the Lava Tower tall volcanic rock formation. We descend down to Barranco Camp through the strange but beautiful Senecio Forest to an altitude of 13,000 ft. Although you begin and end the day at the same elevation, the time spent at higher altitude is very beneficial for acclimatization

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

We begin the day by descending into a ravine to the base of the Great Barranco Wall. Then we climb the non-technical but steep, nearly 900 ft cliff. From the top of the Barranco Wall we cross a series of hills and valleys until we descend sharply into Karanga Valley. One more steep climb up leads us to Karanga Camp. This is a shorter day meant for acclimatization.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

We leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the rocky section to Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the Southern Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest and enjoy an early dinner to prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are viewable from this position.

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut

In the early hours of the morning, we start journey to the summit. The harsh weather and elevation demand mental and physical strength. We ascend in darkness, taking short breaks along the way. At Stella Point, we are greeted by a sunrise over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. we begin our descent, heading straight to the Mweka Hut campsite with a lunch stop at Barafu. in the late afternoon at Mweka Camp,

Mweka Camp to Moshi

On our last day, we continue the descent to Mweka Gate and collect the summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. From the gate, we continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet us at Mweka Village to drive us back to the hotel in Moshi.
