Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp. The drive from Arusha to the Machame Gate takes about 1 hour. The journey passes through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain. As we leave the park gate, we walk through the dense rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge until we reach the Machame Camp

Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp

*Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp* The drive from Arusha to the Machame Gate takes about 1 hour. The journey passes through the village of Machame which is Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp. We leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path up to a steep, rocky ridge. On the Shira Plateau, we pass through heather and open moorlands, then cross a large river gorge to Shira 2 Camp.

Shira 2 Camp to Baranco Camp

Day 3: Shira Camp - LavaTower to Baranco Camp Although you end the day around the same elevation as when you began, this day is important for acclimatization. From Shira Plateau we continue east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the Kibo peak before we then continue, SouthEast towards the LavaTower called the Shark’s Tooth elev.4650m/15,250ft. Shortly after the tower we come to a second junction, which leads to the Arrow Glacier. We then continue to descend to overnight at Barranco Camp

Baranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Day 4: Baranco Camp to Karanga Camp After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, this is where you will come across the famous “kissing rock”. At the top, you will be rewarded with perfect picture opportunities. We then shall proceed to our camp for the night.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak

Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak. In the midnight, we leave Barafu and hike our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. We head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most challenging part of the trek. From Stella, it takes 45min-1hr to Uhuru peak. Congratulations! You are now at Uhuru Peak! We then head down to Barafu camp. We rest, have a hot meal and head down to Mweka camp for an overnight sleep.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate On our last day, we continue the descent to Mweka Gate and collect the summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. From the gate, we continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet us at Mweka Village to drive us back to the hotel in Arusha.
