Itinerary

Day 1 Lusaka

After arrival in Lusaka transfer to a small lodge in the outskirts of town. Overnight in chalets at Pioneer Camp or similar. Dinner in a restaurant (-/-/-).

Day 2

Lower Zambezi

After breakfast we drive through Lusaka and down the escarpment to the Zambezi valley. A visit to the Lower Zambezi Park is one of the highlights in Zambia. The Zambezi River on the one side and the Escarpment on the other form the backdrop of our game viewing. We stay overnight in chalets at Kasaka River Lodge (or similar) on the banks of the Zambezi River (FB).

Day 3

Lower Zambezi

We do game drives in the Park and boating along the river shore to watch the animals come to drink. We stay overnight in chalets at Kasaka River Lodge (or similar) on the banks of the Zambezi River (FB)

Day 4

Lower Zambezi

Game drives in the area and a sunset boat cruise on the Zambezi. We stay overnight in chalets at Kasaka River Lodge (or similar) on the banks of the Zambezi River (FB)

Day 5 via Lusaka to Kafue NP

Today we drive up the escarpment and back to Lusaka, where we do some shopping for the next days in the bush. In the afternoon we carry on to Kafue National Park, where we stay in chalets at Mukambi Lodge on the bank of the Kafue River. (FB)

Day 6 Busanga Plains

Kafue

Transfer in north-western direction to Busanga Plains This area can only be visited in a very limited time of the year. You will spend 2 days in this remote wilderness to explore the area on game drives Overnight in Kasonso Camp (2x FB).

Day 8 Kafue Park - eastern part

Kafue

After a last morning game drive, we drive to the Lufupa River, where a boat is waiting for us for a transfer upstream to Hippo Lodge. This part of the river impresses with its beautiful riverine scenery. We will do game drives in this area on day 9. Overnight in Chalets at Hippo Lodge. (2x FB).

Day 9 Kafue Park - eastern part

Day 10 Lusaka

We leave the park and carry on to Lusaka, where we will spend the afternoon at the lodge or do some shopping in the capital. Overnight in chalets at Wilddog Lodge or similar. Dinner in the restaurant. (B/L/-).

Day 11 Lusaka to Mfuwe

South Luangwa

In the early morning transfer back to Lusaka, afternoon flight to the airport at Mfuwe. Transfer to our lodge next to the Luangwa River. On this afternoon there is no activity included. A night game drive can be booked with the lodge (optional). Overnight in chalets of Marula Lodge or Wildlife Camp or similar (B/-/D).

Day 12

South Luangwa

South Luangwa NP is known for its abundance of African wildlife: Thorneycroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s Gnu, Crawshay Zebra, and big herds of buffalo and elephant. Game drives along the Luangwa River often produce spectacular sightings. Overnight in chalets of Marula Lodge or Wildlife Camp or similar (FB).

South Luangwa

We have a full day to do extensive game drives: Hippo families can be seen in great numbers in the river, unparalleled in Africa. The colourful Carmine bee-eaters are often seen perching in front of their nests in the riverbanks. Overnight in chalets of Marula Lodge or Wildlife Camp or similar (FB).

Day 14

South Luangwa

Another day for exploring the park: during the dry season (July to October), many side channels of the river dry up, leaving the fish trapped. This attracts many different species of predators, such as the African fish eagle, jackal, and hyena, to mention but a few. Overnight in chalets of Marula Lodge or Wildlife Camp or similar (FB).
