Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha/Moshi & Pr
Fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) near Moshi. Transfer to your hotel in Moshi Meet with your guide for a pre-climb briefing, equipment check, and discussion of the route and safety precautions.
Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Drive to Marangu Gate, the starting point for the Marangu route (also known as the "Coca-Cola" route). Begin your trek through the rainforest, gradually ascending to Mandara Hut. Enjoy the lush scenery and keep an eye out for Colobus monkeys.
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (
Trek through the heath and moorland, with views of Mawenzi peak. Reach Horombo Hut, a popular campsite with stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi. Acclimatize and rest at this higher altitude.
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (470
Continue across the "Saddle," a high-altitude desert between Kibo and Mawenzi. Arrive at Kibo Hut, the base camp for the summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the final ascent, which usually begins around midnight.
Day 5: Summit Attempt & Descent to
Begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak (5895m) in the early hours of the morning. Reach Gilman's Point on the crater rim and witness the sunrise. Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa! Descend back to Kibo Hut for a break before continuing to Horombo Hut for the night.
