“A guide will make a big difference to your safari experience, so go with a recommendation or reputable company. Take a good camera. Try tented accommodation if you want an unforgettable experience, which offers the whooping of the hyena by night and awakening to singing birds.” - Steve_c

The serene and vast plains of the Serengeti

Having been on several safaris I would say when it comes to choosing an idyllic safari location the Serengeti is the park of all parks. When I first arrived here I could not get over how vast this place is. It makes me happy that there are still some places left for animals to roam freely in an abundance of nature.

Whether you're into bird watching, you want to witness the largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world, or you want to be almost guaranteed to see the Big Five in their natural habitat, the Serengeti offers it all. Be sure to give yourself enough time, and research which area of the Serengeti to go to depending on the time of year you plan to visit - the animals move year round. I recommend a minimum of ten days if possible. I personally prefer to be close to the migration simply because that's where you're most likely to find the big predators, and the migration itself is a must see.

You will see a diversity of habitats within the Serengeti. This includes rivers such as the Grumeti - teeming with enormous crocodiles; kopjes - popular habitats for lion prides; swamps; grasslands and woodlands.
