“Get in the park as early as possible and be prepared to queue...” - Bushman

A crowded bowl of animals and people

Views: 600 Visited: Oct 2012 Reviewed: Sep 17, 2013

We spent a day in Ngorongoro Crater, mainly because it's en route back to Arusha, where our flight to southern Tanzania awaited. Everything about Ngorongoro Crater is more expensive than its fellow parks: the entrance fee is higher, the vehicle fee is higher, the hotels (if you want one on the rim) are all pretty costly and, chain-like in nature. Our hotel, the Serena, could have been a hotel anywhere in the world, complete with gift shop and several restaurants. Dinner was a buffet-style meal that made me feel as though I were on a cruise ship. I hated it. The crater was something to see. The flamingos and frolicking zebra make for some great photography, but personally, Lake Natron is better and far less crowded. Even the animals seemed bored of our presence. I probably would not return.
