“Stay at one of the lodges on the rim for an amazing view” - Porcupine

Dramatic, beautiful, crowded

Ngorongoro is so unique - this amazing place where a volcano once stood, but then collapsed in on itself to form a massive crater.

Driving over the rim of the crater and seeing it unfold before you is quite magical, and was possibly the best part of our visit.

I heard someone once describe it as 'a bowl full of animals' and that's just how it felt. Many animals live their whole lives in the crater, never finding reason to leave - and you can see why - there's plenty of food for everyone. Lazy lions lie around for hours licking their paws, barely bothering to look up at what would be their next meal.

On the downside, I did feel a little like I was traveling through a very large zoo or theme park. It's almost too easy. This feeling wasn't helped by the fact that we were constantly surrounded by other tourists (more so than any other park I've been to). It's just too busy.

Would I return? Well, let's just say I've got a lot more items to tick off my bucket list before I make a return trip.
