“Zambia October dry-season saw wildlife concentrations at the shrinking water courses” - Jennyphillips

A solo trip of a lifetime to Zambia

Views: 198 Visited: Oct 2018 Reviewed: Nov 13, 2018

I saw Tracks advertising 'no single supplement' plus offering arrangements for the somewhat less fit traveller - perfect for me aged 70 on my first solo holiday as a widow. I contacted Sue and gave her my pretty exacting requirements - I knew what I wanted as I have travelled fairly extensively in Africa before. And boy did Sue give me brilliant advice - she suggested South Luangwa National Park in Zambia as the basis of my wildlife expedition. I turned down any extensions as I purely wanted nature and remoteness. Sue gave me a choice of itineraries; my pick was Robin Pope Safaris. Sue arranged all flights, connections and pick-ups,and could help with all my concerns as she knew all the camps very well.

This was unlike anything before, small camps with everyone eating together, and meeting some lovely fellow-travellers. Game drives were in both early morning, and late afternoon ... after a G&T sun-downer, this became a spotlight drive after dark, when we saw all the nocturnal animals. And the daytime action was unbelievable, mainly because we were so remote. My best viewing was just myself plus my guide in a truck. We saw male giraffes duelling, mating giraffes, giant herds of buffaloes, elephants, and leopard galore and every possible sort of bird. Brilliant!

All I can say is thank you so much Sue for getting me going on solo travel; I'll be in touch soon to spend some more of the kids inheritance in Zambia. Wonderful!!
