A group of us contracted with Ramon Safaris to provide logistical support, guide services, and ensure accessible accommodation for a 5 country 60 day cycling adventure. Alfeus Ramon Kamati, their managing director, appears to be a slick hustler. In fairness however, there is a chance that Ramon Safaris suffered only from poor management and dishonest communication.
While we were promised a lot, we received what appeared to be a carefully and detailed itinerary, including the lodges and hotels at which we were booked. I contacted 20 of the accommodations and none of them had a reservation under the name of Ramon Safaris, Alpheus Ramon, the MD, the name of our group or our individual names. This was over 6 months after we paid our 25% booking deposits. In addition to the itinerary, the only thing that Ramon delivered were lies and excuses.
In our latest communications, Ramon indicated that his company, bought another tour company; later he said that they merged with another unknown company and created a new one, called Beyond Safaris. This name is deceivingly close to a legitimate safari tour and lodging company called "And Beyond."
Unless you want to feel cheated, have money to throw away, or do not really want to go on your tour, stay away from Ramon Safaris, Beyond Safaris, and their MD, Alfeus Ramon Kamati.
We have lost our deposits, feel burned, and have become less trustful of Namibian tour companies. This may not be fair but unless we hear otherwise, it seems that the tourism industry is not equipped to police itself to protect tourists.
