The Social Conscious Safari exposes visitors to the needs of local peoples and to projects designed to help them become economically self-sufficient. Self-sufficiency empowers local community members access quality health care, education and lower their unemployment rates. As a result of global warming, land dependent rural communities that require productive land see their lands shrinking. They need new sources of income and learn new skills. There are many reputable projects taking place in the Tanzania that are helping the local people do this. These programs are designed to maximize their positive impact on recipients without fostering dependency. In fact, they are designed to create economic independence.

The local people are learning how to create handcrafted jewelry and other items tourists’ purchase. Community based tourism is a win-win for both guests and hosts. Guests receive high quality and authentic non-staged experiences and the host community receives a direct economic benefit. In this way, community based initiatives enable the locals to become stakeholders in the lucrative tourism industry and in their own future.
