Day 1

Pick up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and overnight in Arusha at Arusha Villa. We will do your briefing and gear check tonight.

Day 2

Depart Arusha at 8 AM, arriving at the Machame gate by 10 AM to begin the day’s trek through the rainforest.  Lunch will be eaten on the trail, and the night will be spent at Machame Camp.

Day 3

Today we will trek from the Machame Camp to Shira 1 Camp. We leave the rainforest behind, seeing the vegetation grow more sparse and the paths become dustier as we ascend. We’ll have rocks and boulders to contend with as we near the famed Shira Plateau.

Day 4

From Shira 1 Camp we will make our way to Lava Tower. The Lava Tower ascent is quite gradual, and we will have an opportunity to rest and eat lunch when we arrive. Along the way, look for excellent views of Helm Glacier, the Western Breach, and Kibo. Overnight at Barranco Campsite.

Day 5

Just after breakfast, we will ascend to the top of the Great Barranco Wall. At this point, we will be above the cloud line and will be able to see the land spread out below us for miles. Again, we will descend for the night, making camp in the Karanga Valley. Along the way, look for the Decken, Kersten and Heim Glaciers above the valley.

Day 6

From Karanga Camp, we join the Mweka Descent Trail and continue along it to the Barafu Hut. The Hut marks the end of the Southern Circuit, along which we will have enjoyed views of the summit from many different angles. This is another short day, so we’ll have a chance to relax a bit, and prepare for the summit day in the morning. Take some time to enjoy the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi which are clearly visible from Barafu Hut.

Day 7

We will head for the summit just before midnight. This is the most difficult part of the climb, both mentally and physically. We’ll have a warm drink and a snack before we set off, threading between the Rebman and Ratzel glaciers. Next we’ll cross some heavy scree to reach Stella Point (5732 metres) along the crater rim. There we’ll have a short rest and enjoy a unique sight: sunrise at the very top of Africa. Another hour’s hike brings us to Uhuru Peak, the real summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Next, we’ll descend to Barafu Hut again for lunch, then to Mweka Camp (at 3100 metres) for our last dinner on the mountain, and some well-earned sleep.

Day 8

This is our last on the mountain and will see us trek from Mweka Camp back to the park gate where you will receive a certificate of your achievement. Expect the last bit of the route to be muddy, but keep an eye out for Colobus monkeys and other jungle wildlife in the trees! Return to Arusha for the night and relax.

Day 9

Depart your lodge early in the morning making your way to your first stop on safari. Tarangire National Park. Tarangire holds the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem. The Tarangire River weaves its way through the park, supporting an abundance of wildlife including elephants, wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, oryx, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, and eland and over 450 species of birds.Enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the Tarangire River and afternoon game drives. Dinner and overnight at Maramboi Tented Camp.

Day 10

Head out of camp early making your way to the Ngorongoro Crater. This 100 square-mile natural amphitheater is host to an astonishing array of wildlife and you may be lucky enough to see all the big five; rhino, elephant, buffaloes, leopard, and lion, as well as large herds of zebra and wildebeest. A late afternoon picnic lunch will be taken in the crater before making your way lodge for the night, Kitela Lodge in the nearby town of Karatu.

Day 11-12

Relax at the lodge in the morning before catching your midday flight from Lake Manyara Airstip to Zanzibar. You'll transfer to Paje beach where you have the next two days and nights to relax at the stunning Zanzibar White Sand Villas.

Day 13

Transfer to Stonetown where you'll be staying at Zanzibar Coffee House. Spend the afternoon wandering the cobblestone alleyways, enjoying a historical tour of the town and enjoying happy hour on the rooftop.

Day 14

Transfer back to Kilimanjaro International Airport where you'll have a day room at KIA Lodge to enjoy before your flight home.
