After breakfast, you will depart for the Masai Mara National Reserve, which was recently designated as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Your drive will take you through parts of the Great Rift Valley. You will arrive in time for lunch. The reserve is home to most of the East African wildlife species. You will have a game drive in the reserve in the afternoon. The Masai Mara Sopa Lodge is located on the slopes of Oloongama Hills. Guest are drawn to this lodge built in an ethnic design surrounded by a rich landscape, covered in fauna from desert cacti to sweet smelling jasmine, located within the fabled Masai Mara National Reserve. We will be there during the Great Wildebeest Migration, which is quite amazing. The wildebeest and zebra follow the migration circuit that has been traveled by the wildlife for hundreds of years, and their travel is determined by the rains and grazing conditions between Tanzania and Kenya. Ballooning over the plains is available, and should be booked today in person, as this is an optional activity.  We will have dinner and overnight at the Masai Mara Sopa Lodge.

There is something about being on a game drive that speaks to the soul, and opens up ones mind to absorb the amazing surroundings, to become part of this vastness of land blessed with wildlife and natural beauty. You feel such inner peace and joy, just being there. This is always one of the highlights of our safari. October 08     LAKE NAIVASHA

After breakfast, we will drive to Lake Naivasha. This is a freshwater lake located in the Great Rift Valley. The lake is home to over 400 different species of birds, and a sizable population of hippos, and you will find resident giraffe and waterbucks roaming around the grounds of our lodge during the daytime, and hippos in the evening. Between 1937 and 1950 the lake was used as a landing place for flying boats on the Imperial Airways passenger and mail routes. This morning we drive to Samburu National Reserve, and will arrive in time for lunch. Samburu is located in the Northern Frontier of Kenya, and will awaken our adventuresome nature. We will stay at the Samburu Sopa Lodge with panoramic views of distant Samburu Hills and Mt. Kenya. The Manager, Fred Suiyanka, is a good friend of Majestic World, and an outstanding manager that will make us feel right at home during our stay at the lodge. There will be time for a swim after lunch, before our late afternoon game drive. Samburu is home to several animals that are indigenous to this area only: the reticulated giraffe, Grevy zebra, and Somalia ostrich. It is a place of breathtaking beauty, where the vision of a deep red sunset silhouetting doum palms along the river, affords us a perfect ending to a day on safari. We stay in cottages here, with private verandas, a perfect place to sit and read. Or, you might like to take a swim. After

lunch at our lodge, we will visit the first lodge to be built at Samburu Reserve, the Samburu Lodge. We will have drinks on their deck, with the river flowing below. This is a perfect place to spend some time, and leopards are often spotted near this lodge. We will do our afternoon game drive, once we leave the lodge. This will be our last game drive on this safari, and that is always a bit sad for all of us. May one of those amazing sunsets highlight the sky on our way back to our lodge. Dinner and overnight at the Samburu Sopa Lodge (B, L, D)

This morning we will visit the Hadzabe Bushmen tribe www.naipendasafaris.com/hadzabe.htm

We can join the men as they hunt their daily subsidence using traditional bow and arrow, or join the women as they forage for fruits and berries. Everything they use is made from local materials, including their bows and arrows, which are strung with giraffe tendon and their arrows, which are coated with poison. This is a true African experience.

After lunch, we will visit the Datoga tribe, which are known as pastoralists and silversmiths, and are greatly skilled farmers and craftsmen www.naipendasafaris.com/datoga.htm then on to the Mumba Cave, which is an archaeological site that is located by the shores of Lake Eyasi.
